Coedffranc Ladies headed into our first ever cup game on Sunday 19th September in our Badass Mother Runner’s kit. Nerves and excitement were high as we faced Talycopa, an established team with a massive set-up including a ladies team in the Adran South, Tier 2 League.
The game started well with both teams having early chances, but Talycopa went ahead and led 2-0 at the half. Coedffranc Ladies came out fighting in the second half and regained possession from. Talycopa kickoff, scoring 2 goals in within the first 2 minutes of the second half. Cara Martin and Charlie Charles put their defence under pressure quickly and scored great goals. Talycopa retaliated and their Tier 2 player stepped up to score for the WWWGL side, taking it to 3-2 to the visiting side.
However, Coedffranc weren‘t done there. Link up play between Vicki and Cara saw a free kick awarded. Gemma crossed the ball onto Rachel’s head, who flicked it on to Steph for a tap in at the back post 🙌🏻🧡 Extra time was on the cards!
Talycopa took the lead in extra time with a phenomenal shot from Tier 2‘s S.Storton, smashing it into too bins from 30 yards! An outstanding battle at the end of the second half of extra time saw Steph play a curving ball with the outside of her left boot, splitting apart the defence and allowing Cara to get her second goal in the last minute of extra time 💪🏻
Penalties…
Gemma O, our player of the match, stepped up last minute after a training injury kept Rachel Boe out of the game. Talycopa went into the lead after the first round of penalties, but Charlie and Rachel kept us in it with two great pens. A miss from a young Talycopa player meant we were in with a chance and Gemma Q slotted in penalty number 4. Gemma O made a save, giving Steph the chance to win the match for us. She hammered home her penalty 💪🏻 And thats it…just like that we are through to the second round.
Massive thanks and appreciation to the sportsmanship of all Talycopa players, coaches and spectators, as well as to the referee Ethan Goatley who kept the play flowing nicely wherever possible. Also, a big thank you to the Coedffranc Council‘s Groundskeepers for preparing the pitch and changing rooms for our game day.
We now look forward to playing the same Talycopa side in a WWWGL league match next weekend at Cwrt Herbert 4G pitch. It is a great match-up between the two teams so it should be another great game of football!
Thanks muchly for all your support 🧡
